MIDWOOD, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A 44-year-old woman was fatally struck by an ambulance early Thursday morning in the Midwood section of Brooklyn, police say.
The ambulance, operated by Maimonides Medical Center, was making a left turn from Avenue O onto Ocean Avenue when it struck the pedestrian.
The woman was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Detectives believe that the driver likely did not realize the pedestrian was struck and kept going.
Maimonides Medical Center has identified and suspended the driver pending the outcome of the investigation.
"The Maimonides family is devastated by this tragic loss. Our EMT staff who were involved in the incident have been suspended pending the outcome of the NYPD's investigation. Our heart goes out to the victim's family and friends," Maimonides Medical Center said in a statement.
Police are looking to talk to the driver.
