MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- The suspect accused of stabbing seven people in Penn Station earlier this month has been indicted on 18 counts.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. announced that Hector Deleon, 51, was indicted on seven counts of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of assault in the first degree, six counts of attempted assault in the first degree and four counts of assault in the second degree.
"Hector Deleon is now indicted for this alleged unprovoked stabbing spree in the middle of Penn Station," Bragg said. "I am grateful to the good Samaritans who helped end this attack and the Amtrak police officers who safely apprehended the defendant when he attempted to flee. We will not accept this type of random violence anywhere in Manhattan."
At about 7 p.m. on June 7, Deleon allegedly entered the NJ Transit area of Penn Station and pulled out a fixed-blade knife.
According to the district attorney's office, Deleon attacked an unidentified man who was sitting on the floor, stabbing at his throat before stabbing at a woman's chest.
He then allegedly encountered a 60-year-old man and stabbed at his neck. The victim fought back, and Deleon is accused of stabbing him in the left temple, causing a traumatic brain injury.
Deleon then allegedly went down an escalator and stabbed a 36-year-old man in the neck, followed by a 60-year-old man in the face.
Farther into the station, Deleon allegedly stabbed a 42-year-old man in the throat. The victim fought him off with a backpack before Deleon approached a 30-year-old man and stabbed him twice in the left temple, prosecutors said.
Bragg also thanked Amtrak investigators Alrazi Alli and Almedin Javorovac, along with Amtrak Sgt. Sharon Patterson, for their work on the case.
