Suspect turns himself in after two women found fatally stabbed in Nassau County

NASSAU COUNTY, Long Island (WABC) -- Police have charged a man with murder after he allegedly stabbed two women to death in Nassau County.

Rony Yahir Alvarenga Rivera, 22, turned himself in to police and was taken into custody.

The two women were stabbed to death at different locations.

Early Friday morning, police responded to a 911 call from a Wendy's at 33 Austin Boulevard in North Long Beach.

A 42-year-old woman had been stabbed outside the restaurant and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the deceased woman and their suspect were coworkers at that Wendy's.

Police received a call confessing to a murder.

"He said he had killed somebody that night, homicide detectives responded to that scene," said Detective Lieutenant George Darienzo, commanding officer of homicide for the Nassau County Police Department.

A few hours later, police in Lynbrook responded to a well check call at 90 West Mineola Avenue in Valley Stream.

Officers found a woman, 32, dead inside the home. She had been fatally stabbed.

"They observed an individual in the likeness of the photo that they had from the scene of the murder. A short conversation ensued, and an arrest was made during that time, that same time, information was received that this individual may be responsible for a second murder," Darienzo said.

Rivera is charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder.

Nassau County officials also claim the suspect is an immigrant from El Salvador who entered the country illegally.
