'The Book of Mormon' returns to Broadway after fire damaged theater

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The Book of Mormon finally returns to Broadway Wednesday night.

A select number of $15 tickets are on sale, two per customer, in honor of the show's 15th anniversary on Broadway.

It's been nearly a month since theater goers last saw the show.

On May 4, a fire burned through part of the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, causing significant damage.

No one was hurt.

Producers were hoping to get the show back up and running sooner, but repairs took longer than expected.

"The Book of Mormon" will finally return Tuesday night and the FDNY Chief of Department will join other officials and theater lovers to watch it.

Tuesday morning, New Yorkers and tourists were lining up more than two hours before tickets went on sale.

"It feels like it's going to be a special show celebrating coming back from being away from such a long time for something as scary as a fire, and I just wanted to be there to experience it," said Joe, an Upper West Side resident. "They might crack some extra jokes tonight and I wanted to see it."

"When I knew I was coming to New York I was so excited to see it and a week before I was traveling the fire happened and I was so sad because I really wanted to see it," said Augustina, a tourist from Argentina. "It's like a miracle because we leave on Friday so now we can see it."

The show takes to the stage at 7 p.m.
