NEW JERSEY (WABC) -- U.S. Sen. Andy Kim of New Jersey is opening up about his father's Alzheimer's diagnosis and his journey to becoming a caregiver for his dad.
Kim released a video on Monday to start documenting what he is going through and to answer the questions he and so many others face when it comes to caring for loved ones.
"I'm not just a son or father. I'm not just a caregiver. I'm privileged to be a United States Senator. But even in that position, I struggle with questions about Medicare and Medicaid, about health care, about support. If I'm struggling with that, what are others facing?" Kim said.
Kim's father is a Ph.D who focused on studying Alzheimer's -- and now has Alzheimer's himself.
The junior senator from New Jersey is trying to use his father's diagnosis as a way to bring awareness to what many Americans are struggling with.
"If I'm going to go through hell with him and my family, I'm going to try and help as many people as I can along the way."
