Staten Island teen steps into the spotlight for New York Mini 10K

NY Mini 10K runner is hitting her stride as this year's youth ambassador

NEW YORK (WABC) -- As the 2026 Mastercard New York Mini 10K celebrates runners of all ages, one local teen is stepping into the spotlight.

Charisma South, 17,from Staten Island is this year's Youth Ambassador, representing the next generation of athletes and inspiring young runners across the city as she takes part in one of New York's most iconic races.

The Tottenville High School student has been selected as this year's Youth Ambassador for the Mini 10K -representing young runners across New York and showing that the future of the sport is already hitting its stride.

The 2026 Mastercard New York Mini 10K will be covered by an all-women broadcast team featuring WABC Sports Anchor Sam Ryan, U.S. Olympians Carrie Tollefson and Alysia Montaño, and host of the "Ali on the Run Show" podcast Ali Feller. The professional fields will be covered by a livestream, distributed domestically by ESPN+ and abc7ny.com, and internationally from NYRR's YouTube channel beginning at 7:45 a.m. ET. Additional coverage will be available in the tristate area on ABC New York, Channel 7, with live news cut-ins from 6-10 a.m.
