Teen girl in Newark shot to death outside friend's home

NEWARK, N.J. (WABC) -- A 19-year-old Newark woman was fatally shot near her home.

Tammy Henderson was shot on South 11th Street just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday night in front of a friend's house. She was later pronounced dead.

No arrests were immediately made and police were trying to determine a motive.

Family members said Henderson graduated from Weequahic High School and had recently enrolled to become a dental assistant.

They said she was shot by a person in a dark hoodie who fled the scene.

Essex County Prosecutors Office and police have not confirmed the information provided by family members.
