GREENPOINT, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Commuters can expect continued service disruptions on the G train further into the summer.
The MTA is rescheduling some G train repair work originally slated for the weekend of June 12.
That repair work and subsequent closure will now happen during the weekend of July 10, according to NY Assemblymember Emily Gallagher.
The delayed repairs are meant to prevent consecutive weekend outages.
Officials say the repairs are meant to accommodate track work and signal modernization.
"This is the reality of of the, you know, generation of neglect of the MTA's core infrastructure," MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber said. "It turns out that tunnel under New Town Creek between Greenpoint and Long Island City needs a lot more work than was originally thought."
The G is the only train that runs exclusively between Brooklyn and Queens.
This weekend, the G train continues to be partly suspended between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av until Monday at 5 a.m. as work is underway.
Free shuttle buses are provided, the MTA says.
Subway riders can check out the MTA's information page for the latest updates on subway services.
