Man critically hurt after being struck in Brooklyn hit-and-run

EAST WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A man is in critical condition after being struck during a hit-and-run in Brooklyn early Sunday morning.

The hit-and-run happened just after midnight on Vandervoort Avenue near Maspeth Avenue in East Williamsburg.

According to the NYPD, a car was traveling northbound on Vandervoort Avenue when it struck a 31-year-old man walking in the street. Officials say the man was trying to enter a double-parked vehicle when he was struck.

Upon arrival, responding officers found the man with trauma to his head. First responders transported the victim to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the car did not remain on scene, police said.

There are currently no arrests as authorities continue to investigate what led up to the collision.
