FLORAL PARK, Long Island (WABC) -- A retired NYPD officer is among at least two people who died while shoveling snow during the storm in the Tri-State area.
Roger McGovern, 60, an usher at Our Lady of Victory Church, collapsed while shoveling in Floral Park on Sunday.
The husband and father of three lost his life at the same place he cherished.
"They said that he was at church and he had a seizure was the original and by the time he got to the hospital, he passed," friend Kevin Troy said.
His family said he had just finished attending Sunday noon mass.
"He had spoke to the priest and said that he was going to go out and shovel the sidewalk for the parishioners so they can get in and before he started shoveling he had collapsed," Troy said.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Additionally, officials say a 67-year-old man was found unresponsive on a sidewalk in Verona, New Jersey, with a shovel in his hand.
He was taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead.
His identity has not been released.
