Neighbors react after woman found dead in home during welfare check in NJ

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, New Jersey (WABC) -- An investigation is underway after a woman was found dead during a welfare check in Middlesex County, New Jersey over the weekend.

Police responded to a home on Redwood Court in South Brunswick around 10:40 a.m. on Sunday.

Upon arrival, officers found Veronica Jones, 47, unresponsive. First responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

As of Monday afternoon, police say the woman's death is suspicious. Sources tell Eyewitness News that Jones was found bound with tape and that she may have been dead for several days.

A neighbor of the victim says Jones had lived in the neighborhood for over a decade, and that she was cordial and quiet.

"We didn't see her for a while actually," one man said. "I'm so sad, you know, who did this?"

The medical examiner will now determine the cause of death.

Another neighbor tells Eyewitness News that the victim had a son who frequently visited her home. The two allegedly had some issues between them.

There are currently no arrests, but police are looking to locate and question a relative of the victim who may have been the last person to see her alive.

Anyone with information about the incident or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Officer Jamal Benbow of the South Brunswick Police Department at 732-329-4646 or Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at 732-745-4274.
