Brush fire on Staten Island under control
A brush fire that broke out on Staten Island Monday has been placed under control.

OAKWOOD, Staten Island (WABC) -- Nearly 200 firefighters battled a large brush fire on Staten Island Friday.

The fire broke out in Great Kills Park near Mill Road and Kissam Avenue in the Oakwood section at about 1:15 p.m.

The FDNY said no structures are in danger at this time, and after several hours, crews were able to get the fire under control.

The fire spread to five alarms, aided by strong, sustained winds blowing out of the west at 18-23 mph.
