Long Island man arrested, accused of damaging red light cameras

CENTEREACH, Long Island (WABC) -- A Centereach man has been arrested, suspected of damaging 19 red light cameras throughout Suffolk County.

Between April 9 and April 10, according to Suffolk County Police, Stephen Ruth cut wires and manipulated equipment on 18 red light cameras.

He also is accused of cutting down a red light camera pole in Coram in January.

Police said damage is estimated at $25,000.

Ruth, 43, of Centereach, was charged with two counts of criminal mischief 2nd Degree.
