PORT JERVIS, N.Y. (WABC) -- An art teacher in Orange County has been arrested on charges she had a relationship with a high school student.

New York State Police said 30-year-old Ashley Kaufmann has been charged with forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child. Both are misdemeanor crimes.

Troopers said Kaufmann had a relationship with a 16-year-old boy at Port Jervis High School.

According to police, the forcible touching charge stems from physical contact and the student being incapable of giving consent to the physical contact due to being a minor.

Kaufmann was released and is scheduled to appear in Town of Deerpark Court on Aug. 5 at 7 p.m.
