Police: Manhattan man, 28, dies after shooting

NEW YORK

The Daily News reports 28-year-old Jose Uraga was shot once Saturday night outside a Mexican grocery store. Police say he was later pronounced dead at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia.

Uraga's brother, 36-year-old Raymondo Uraga, told the newspaper he was coming out of a subway station when he saw Jose arguing with three men. Raymondo, who didn't recognize the three men, tried to break up the fight.

Raymondo Uraga says one of the men aimed a gun at him, and Jose grabbed the man's hand and got shot in the chest.

Family members described Jose Uraga as a kind and gentle man who worked behind a grill seven days a week at a Manhattan deli.
