Out-of-control car slams into Bronx bakery

MORRIS PARK

The incident happened in the Morris Park section in the early evening hours.

The driver jumped the curb and headed toward a group of children, just missing them, before slamming into the building. The young girl was hurt by flying glass.

Soon enough, the car was towed away and a worker started cleaning up the broken glass.

The girl is listed in serious condition at Jacobi Hospital.

"I turned around and heard this loud crash," eyewitness Maria Pucci said. "I heard a little girl screaming 'Mommy! Mommy!'"

Resident Diana Sorgina said that the elderly man was trying to pull out of a parking spot.

"I don't know if he was in reverse, but he gunned it," she said.

Kristen Berisha works at Enrico's Pastry Shop on Morris Park Avenue between Hone and Lurting avenues. She says the kids and their parents were leaving the store.
