1 dead in possible wrong-way crash in Staten Island

NEW YORK

Police say a Toyota was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when it slammed into another Toyota at South Avenue just before 2 a.m.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, a woman, was pronounced dead.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, who is believed to have taken a wrong turn onto the expressway from Richmond Road, was hospitalized with unknown injuries.

Charges are believed to be pending against the wrong way driver.
