Long Island principals warned about website posting naked pictures of students

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, Long Island (WABC) -- It's just the latest illicit website making its way around local high schools.

It allows anonymous users to post naked pictures of students by name.

Eyewitness News obtained a letter recently sent by the Archdiocese of Rockville Centre to principals warning them about the site.

"I think it's awful that's something that needs to be dealt with by parents, by schools, by society at large kids now have phones and they don't think twice about what's appropriate to do with them," said East Hills resident Felice Kobrick.

The site allows users to ask for photos of specific students.

Users can also request pictures of young people from particular schools.

One user for example asks for pictures of girls from West Hempstead, Garden City and Island Park.

In the Archdiocese letter, it says it's believed that male students are printing out the pictures and trading them like, "baseball cards".

One user from Smithtown makes reference to that posting -- 'Everyone wanted to trade instead of post. Just post. Let's get it started fellas.'

"Parents need to have conversations with their kids. They need to know what websites they're on. They need to get educated about these websites," said Alane Fagin, the executive director of Child Abuse Prevention Services.

She says parents need to explain to their kids being on sites like these can get them in trouble with the law.

"It's illegal. In certain cases it can be construed as child pornography which could have legal consequences," said Fagin.

Local police departments, including Rockville Centre, tell us they are looking into it.
