Eyewitness News is taking you inside New York-Presbyterian for a look at some extraordinary stories that we call Medical Marvels. It's WABC's Emmy-nominated digital series exclusive to abc7NY.

According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women.

In honor of American Heart Month, we bring you David's story. During a routine physical, David Epstein learned he was living with a ticking time bomb in his chest.

An EKG test revealed an irregularity caused by a massive aortic aneurysm.

Dr. Leonard Girardi, Cardiothoracic Surgeon-in-Chief at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, performed the delicate surgery that likely saved David's life.

Because of his personal experience, David has dedicated his life to helping others by sharing his story.
