6-year-old girl nearly drowns at Spa Castle in Queens

COLLEGE POINT, Queens (WABC) -- A 6-year-old girl nearly drowned after her hair got stuck in a pool vent in a spa in Queens Friday.

It happened at Spa Castle on 11th Avenue in College Point.

Witnesses told Eyewitness News the girl stopped breathing after she got stuck at the bottom of the pool. She was blue when she was pulled from the water. Another person at the spa jumped in to help, and performed CPR on her.

The owner of Spa Castle told Eyewitness News said the business has three employees certified in CPR on the floor, with five pools on the floor.

The girls was rushed to New York Hospital Center of Queens, where she was stabilized and is expected to survive.

Spa Castle is a popular multi-story facility with saunas, spa pools, and relaxation areas.

In 2014, an 84-year-old man died after spending an extended period of time in a hot tub.
