NYPD officer accidentally shoots self in leg while chasing suspect in the Bronx

LONGWOOD, Bronx (WABC) -- An NYPD officer accidentally shot himself while trying to run down a suspect in the Bronx.

The officer accidentally fell and shot himself in the leg near Westchester and Simpson Street in the Longwood section.

Officials say the suspect is now in police custody, but it is not yet known why officers were pursuing the suspect in the first place.
