NYC tourist stabbed in neck day after Central Park marriage proposal speaks out

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) -- A tourist who proposed to his girlfriend while visiting New York City over the weekend was later attacked in Manhattan.

Connor Rasmussen, 23, of Puyallup, Washington, put together a whirl wind of a weekend, preparing to propose to his girlfriend Jordan Asher in Central Park, while making sure their closest friends and family were there for the special occasion.

"He's like, 'Come here.' And I was like, 'Okay.' And then it clicked for me what was happening, and then I was so shocked," Asher said.

And she said, "Yes!"

Rasmussen was on cloud nine. Saturday night he was out celebrating with friends.

Around 1:45 a.m. Sunday at the corner of East 46th Street and Madison Avenue, a madman stabbed him in the back of the neck!

"I didn't fall down or anything. But I just get hit and stumble forward and I see this guy standing there," Rasmussen said. "He was just looking at me like wide-eyed. Like shocked, you know?"

Rasmussen added, "I pull it out, and I look, and I realize I have a steak knife in my hand covered in blood."

He has eight stitches, and miraculously he does not have any serious injuries from this random attack.

Rasmussen believes it was a robbery attempt, but police say that's still unclear.

Tuesday night, Rasmussen and Asher say they're trying to focus on their future.

"Focus on the good things that happened," Rasmussen said. "We're not letting that crowd the special moment that we shared together and we're so excited for. Definitely coming away positive."

So far there are no arrests.

The happy couple is still working on finalizing their wedding plans.
