BRONX, N.Y. (WABC) -- Police are looking for two suspects in the robbery of an 83-year-old woman in the Tremont section of the Bronx.
Great-grandmother Marion Winters believes it's a miracle she wasn't injured more than some staples in the back of her head after police say the two men, seen in surveillance video, tried to rob her for her purse.
"He pulled the bag, I thought it was a joke," she said.
Winters told us the attack happened right in the entrance of her building on Longfellow Avenue while she was trying to enter just before 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Police believe the men followed her after she got off a bus. Winters never saw them coming and says she could barely make out their faces.
"All i could see was the nose and mouth, he had his hood all down like that," she said.
But this great-grandma wasn't going down without a fight.
"I said what you say, give you my pocketbook, I said OK you can have it. I took it like this just one time, took the cane off my arm and I Ohhhh, I hope I didn't hit him. Don't think I did because he ran out mighty fast," Winters said.
In the midst of fighting off her attackers, she fell to the ground, hitting her head on stairs.
"I bust the step my head hit so hard, I got 15 stitches, staples in my head," she said.
The men took off, and Winters kept her purse. She'd like to see the attackers caught, but if they think they're coming back to the block to rob more senior citizens, it's probably not a good idea.
"You know I'm going to defend me, I'm going to defend me because I'm too old for that too," said Winters.
