AccuWeather Alert: Gusty wind, bitter cold after AM snow

AccuWeather forecast for NYC, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The coldest air mass in nearly 2 years is on the way to the region following a snowy start to the weekend.

An AccuWeather Alert warned of slick travel Saturday morning - the first day of winter - as light snow fell across the Tri-State.

Most areas saw a coating to an inch or two, but areas north and west of New York City got up to five inches.

Skies cleared across the area by mid-morning amid gusty conditions, heralding a drop in temperatures and bitter cold settling in at night.

Arctic air, with wind chills in the teens and single digits, will stay with us through the rest of the weekend into Monday.
