Sheriff's deputy shoots bar patron

CHESTER, N.Y. The sheriff's office says the deputy, 30-year-old Jeremy Yela, was at G.W.'s Sports Grill in Chester at 1 a.m. when a patron who had been kicked out of the bar got in his car and tried three times to run over the bouncer. Bar owner John Salerno says the car hit the bouncer and broke his leg.

Witnesses told Salerno that Yela identified himself as an officer and tried to stop the driver, eventually firing his weapon.

The victim was not immediately identified. A grand jury will determine whether Yela followed proper police protocol.
