More work to come to Flint truck plant

GM makes announcement Monday
FLINT Right now, there are two different trucks made at GM Flint Assembly. By the end of the year, there will be five truck models made there, providing stability for the workforce.

The assembly line was stopped as GM and the UAW told workers at the truck plant the good news.

They'll soon be making a truck just like the Silverado regular cab light-duty pickup. The company had already announced they'd be making the Crew Cab version later this year.

"It's outstanding. It goes without saying for Flint, Genesee County and even the state of Michigan, especially with all the Volt announcements," said Dana Rouse.

As it stands now, the plant makes the Silverado and GMC Sierra regular and crew cab heavy-duty trucks. Later this year, three more will be added.

GM announced last year it is investing more than $21 million in the plant to accommodate the new truck production.

Rouse says GM will now add another $6.5 million in improvements to move a motor line.

None of this will add any workers to the plant, but that could change later this year if a third shift is added.
