According to a complaint filed in federal court, William Lott faces several drug charges after authorities found 28 bales of marijuana weighing 710 pounds inside the storage unit he was renting. Federal investigators found the marijuana last week inside a unit at Bee Safe Storage in Flint Township near Swartz Creek.
This morning, Lott was indicted in U.S. District Court in Bay City. According to the federal complaint, investigators found another 25 pounds of marijuana at Lott's home in Flint.
Connie Penfold, the manager of the storage company, says Lott started renting the unit last March. She says that was her only encounter with him.
Penfold says they never had a problem with Lott and that and he was always on time with rent payments. "They just have, in our situation, 24-hour access. They can come and go when they want. A lot of them like that access to their stuff, so, yeah, I never really saw him again."
The complaint filed this morning also says Lott admitted to renting the storage unit to store marijuana for what they call co-conspirators in the drug enterprise.
Is still unclear what tipped off investigators.
