BAY CITY Prosecutors say Lynn Spicer's boyfriend Jeffrey Julian wanted her out of his
life and was willing to kill to make that happen.
Today, the trial for Jeffrey's brother and alleged partner-in-crime got
underway.
Jeffrey's younger brother Craig is charged with murder and disposing of a body.
Both brothers were in court today.
As Craig's trial got underway, Jeffrey made an appearance, dressed in his orange
jail jumpers to reveal his decision about testifying.
Jeffrey told Judge Sheeran he does plan to take the stand. After that issue was
resolved, opening statements began.
Prosecutor Kurt Asbury told jurors Jeffrey and Craig had planned Spicer's death
in detail, including the method they would use to kill her.
Craig's attorney told the jury his client was guilty of helping to move Spicer's
body, but he did not kill the 33-year-old mother of three last August. Instead,
Craig's attorney points the finger at Jeffrey.
"An ex-Marine who was very upset about the fact that his unit got bottled up and
didn't get any action in Iraq comes back, is aggressive, violent. He found
somebody to take it out on, the woman that he wanted to get rid off," said
Robert Dunn.
"Why was her life taken? Because she didn't fit Jeff Julian's lifestyle anymore,
and nobody in his family liked her, including the defendant," said Bay County
Prosecutor Kurt Ashbury.
Ashbury alleges brothers Craig and Jeffrey Julian discussed two options to get
rid of Spicer. Murder or a bus ticket out of town.
The prosecution says the pair decided to kill her because they couldn't afford
the other option.
"To them, her life wasn't even worth the price of a bus ticket," Ashbury said.
When testimony began, the prosecution played 911 tapes of Jeffrey's call to
report Spicer missing.
"We were walking around last night, we got into an argument and broke up and she
took off walking," said Jeffrey on the 911 tapes.
In reality, her body was already buried in an empty lot in Bay City.
"Blood's thicker than water, and he's over there. The evidence will show he
walks around the back of his grandma's house, there's, there's Lynn laying
there, dead," Dunn said.
The prosecution believes both brothers planned the murder, adding that three
months after it was done, Jeff confessed this to a friend:
"She just had to go, I couldn't just break up with her, 'cause literally I was
the single greatest thing that ever happened to her," Asbury said Jeff said to a
friend.
Jeffrey's trial has not yet been scheduled.
