RAMAPO, NY (WABC) -- A park in Rockland County remains closed after bears were spotted there Sunday afternoon.

Some children who noticed the bears chased the mother and three cubs up a tree.

Soon, other people arrived to take a look and that made the situation even more dangerous.

Police escorted everyone out. They hope the bears will move into the forest on their own, saying it was too dangerous to tranquilize them under night conditions.

Bears are common to the area, but are not common in Viola Park.
