NEW YORK (WABC) -- The idea of immortality has seen several incarnations on the big screen, and the latest stars Blake Lively as a woman who doesn't age.
Her character in "The Age of Adaline" is a whopping 107 years old, and boy, does she look good for her age.
A freak accident keeps her looking young forever, while her daughter grows into an old woman.
Adaline has learned to change her identity every decade so, as not to attract attention to her timeless beauty, and she's learned to avoid romantic entanglements.
But her latest scheme gets complicated when she meets a rich guy, and even riskier when you consider he's the son of Adaline's old lover, played by Harrison Ford.
Preposterous movies like this one might take us to the border of believability and beyond, into the realm of "could never happen," but that doesn't mean it's disappointing.
Lively's sensitive performance, which is so beautifully restrained given she once played a "Gossip Girl," leaves you wondering why she hasn't become a bigger star.
It's also the best acting Ford has done in a long time.
Old age, it's been said, isn't so bad if you consider the alternatives. And "The Age of Adaline" provides new truth to that, as long as you can suspend your disbelief long enough to hear it.
