Bronx fire in Morris Heights leaves several injured

MORRIS HEIGHTS, Bronx (WABC) -- A four-alarm fire was burning Tuesday morning in an apartment building in the Bronx.

Five civilians and one firefighter were injured. The five residents were treated for smoke inhalation and the firefighter was treated for an injured leg. None of the injuries was life threatening.

Flames burned through the floor of the Andrews Avenue South apartment building and through the roof just before 2:30 a.m.

Firefighters ran seven lines onto the fire floor, to catch up with the rapidly spreading flames.

"It was pretty dramatic," FDNY Chief Jay Jonas said.

They were able to stop the flames before spreading to another wing of the large apartment building.

"All the apartments on the top floor sustained severe fire damage," Jonas said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
