Partial building collapse on West Side
Josh Einiger reports from the scene on 57th Street, where a building under demolition partially collapsed.

WEST SIDE (WABC) -- A building under demolition partially collapsed Wednesday on the West Side of Manhattan, injuring a construction worker.

It happened at about 2:35 p.m. at a 4-story garage at 622 West 57th Street, between 11th and 12th Avenues.

Fire department spokesman Brian Norton says the worker rode down the collapse Wednesday afternoon by standing on scaffolding or part of the three-story midtown Manhattan building as it crumbled.

Norton says the worker has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. He says all other workers are accounted for.

Firefighters searched the collapse area in case there were any other victims.

Scaffolding on the side of the building collapsed onto the sidewalk near two school buses.

The building had closed on September 30th.

The FDNY is breaking away scaffolding so they can better access the building. There's one tower ladder stretched just in case of a fire.

The gas and electric to the building have been turned off.

Police closed West 57th Street between 11th and 12th Avenues.

The Buildings Department is on the scene conducting an investigation, while debris removal and scaffolding repairs continue.
