NEWARK, NJ (WABC) -- A business owner turned the tables on a man trying to rob a deli in Newark Tuesday, fatally shooting the suspect.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Newark Police Department are investigating the shooting of 46-year-old Mark Robinson, who authorities say was trying to rob the Neighborhood Deli Supermarket.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 8:30 p.m., Robinson walked into the store, located at 48 Irvine Turner Boulevard, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the store owner.
The owner pulled out a gun and opened fire at Robinson.
Robinson's gun was found at the scene.
Robinson was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:10 p.m.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
At this time no charges have been lodged against the owner, who legally possessed the gun he used to shoot Robinson.
