BUSTLETON -- Police say drag racing may have led to a high-speed crash in Northeast Philadelphia that left three people dead and one fighting for life.

The deadly crash happened after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Sandmeyer Lane just off Red Lion Road in the city's Bustleton section.

Police say the late 2000 model Acura TL car was traveling at a high rate of speed on a sharp turn when the driver lost control.

The car appears to have hit a tree and nearly split in half, ending up in the parking lot of a business.

Police were searching the immediate area for a second car that may have been involved.

All of the victims, two women, and a man, were inside of the vehicle that crashed.

The person who survived was thrown from the vehicle. That person was said to be in extremely critical condition.

Police say the victims range in age from 17 to early 20s.

The business where the car ended up does have surveillance video, and police were working in the early hours of Thursday morning to obtain that video.

Philadelphia Police Captain Deshawn Beaufort warned about the dangers of drag racing, "It only takes a second to lose control of a vehicle and have a senseless loss of life. It's very unnecessary."
