Queens cemetery worker critically hurt in fall into grave

MIDDLE VILLAGE (WABC) -- A man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after falling into an open grave in Queens Friday.

Officials say a worker at St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village was digging a grave when he fell into the eight-foot hole.

Emergency crews were called to the scene about 10:15 a.m.

He was not moving when rescuers arrived, but they were able to stabilize the hole and rescue the worker.

He was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital with a possible broken shoulder and leg.

He is expected to survive.
