HAVERSTRAW (WABC) -- A man was convicted Thursday in the murder of his girlfriend in Haverstraw.
Nixon Bourguignon was charged with Murder after strangling Shannon Coleman.
In May 2014, Bourguignon violently attacked the victim during an argument inside the family's home at the MountainSide Apartment complex in Haverstraw. The couple had lived together in the second-floor apartment for years.
The victim had two young sons who were in the apartment during the attack. Neither child witnessed the killing. Both children were also unharmed.
"Evidence presented at trial showed that the defendant strangled the victim during the protracted break-up of their relationship," said District Attorney Zugibe.
Bourguignon faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison on the second degree murder conviction.
