NEW YORK (WABC) -- Brutal cold continues across New York City and the Tri-State area, with bone-chilling wind chills dipping as low as 5 to 10 degrees below zero in some spots.

Cold weather advisories remain in effect, with frostbite possible on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

While daytime temperatures may briefly approach the freezing mark this week, strong winds are making it feel far colder.

Black ice, flurries, and another potential blast of Arctic cold heading into next weekend mean winter hazards are far from over.
Bundle up, limit time outdoors, and stay weather-aware.

This is how DSNY will melt the snow in NYC

In the wake of the weekend's snow storm, the NYC Department of Sanitation is now going around the city to melt accumulated snow piles.

DSNY workers will haul snow piles to five locations around the city, one in each borough.

The snow will go into what are essentially giant hot tubs where it will melt.

Jaysha Patel reports.

These giant hot tubs can melt 240,000 pounds of snow every hour.

The melted snow will then enter the city's sewer system.

Frustration grows over number of unplowed streets, treacherous road conditions in Paterson

Schools were closed again on Tuesday as frustration grows over the number of unplowed streets that remain in Paterson.

New Jersey Transit tried to resume bus service Tuesday morning, but snow-covered streets made maneuvering a challenge.

On East 27, a bus needed an assist to get back on schedule.

Some residents say they have dug out many times only for neighbors to toss snow back onto sidewalks.

The mayor is asking residents to contact his office to remove snow, but in many areas, it looks like a plow truck came once and never returned.

The situation in Jersey City is similar to Paterson in many areas.

The new mayor is working with his Department of Public Works to find out why so many streets are still covered with snow.
