NEW YORK (WABC) -- Brutal cold continues across New York City and the Tri-State area, with bone-chilling wind chills dipping as low as 5 to 10 degrees below zero in some spots.

Cold weather advisories remain in effect, with frostbite possible on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

While daytime temperatures may briefly approach the freezing mark this week, strong winds are making it feel far colder.

Black ice, flurries, and another potential blast of Arctic cold heading into next weekend mean winter hazards are far from over.
Bundle up, limit time outdoors, and stay weather-aware.

Mamdani shares more details on 10 NYC deaths

Mayor Mamdani said Wednesday that officials suspect about 7 of the 10 weather-related deaths in the city were a result of hypothermia.

He said about six were known to Department of Homeless Services.

Officials are still waiting for the medical examiner to determine the causes of death.

Since Tuesday night, the city has made about 30 additional placements of homeless people.

Mamdani said he went to Bellevue Hospital warming center and then joined outreach workers on their shifts.

He met an older man that told him he lived in an apartment on the Upper East Side for decades.

His wife died and he could not bear to live in the building. He is now homeless, finding shelter in Bellevue hospital.

This is how DSNY will melt the snow in NYC

In the wake of the weekend's snow storm, the NYC Department of Sanitation is now going around the city to melt accumulated snow piles.

DSNY workers will haul snow piles to five locations around the city, one in each borough.

The snow will go into what are essentially giant hot tubs where it will melt.

Jaysha Patel reports.

These giant hot tubs can melt 240,000 pounds of snow every hour.

The melted snow will then enter the city's sewer system.
