NEW YORK (WABC) -- The Spurs jumped out to a 16-point lead, but the Knicks closed the gap to just 5 points by halftime, 42-37.

New York can win its first NBA championship since 1973 on Saturday night, with the Knicks holding a 3-1 lead going into Game 5 of the NBA Finals against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.

"We've been preaching all year it's about the next possession, the next possession, the next possession," Knicks coach Mike Brown said. "We understand any time you try to play a closeout game, the level of desperation - for your opponents - increases (and) the level of desperation for the fans of your opponents is increased. You have to bring your best effort because even if you bring your best effort, it may not happen, especially on the road."

The Knicks are 3-0 in closeout opportunities this season, winning them by an average of 39.3 points - all of them on the road.

Game 5 is Saturday in San Antonio with tip off at 8:30 p.m. on ABC 7, your home for the NBA Finals. Pre-game coverage begins at 7:30 p.m.

MSG watch party is on for Game 5

The Knicks will host watch parties outside Madison Square Garden and at Radio City Music Hall for Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Finals, the team announced.

The MSG event will hold a maximum of 3,000 ticketed fans within the NYPD "frozen zone." Only ticketed watch party fans will be permitted entry and must be through security and in place at Plaza33 no later than 8:30pm to be allowed entry into the Plaza33 watch party.

Attendees at Radio City can watch the game on large screens inside the venue amongst other fans, the team announced. Another free watch party will be held for fans at Wollman Rink in Central Park.

Pre-registration on the Knicks website is required for all three events and tickets will be made available to fans on Saturday, June 13 at 10am ET.

Mayor Mamdani announces 130 LinkNYC kiosks will stream NBA Finals Game 5

Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced on Friday that 130 LinkNYC kiosks across the five boroughs of New York City will stream Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Saturday night.

The mayor partnered with LinkNYC and the NBA to stream Game 4 on dozens of screens citywide earlier this week, the first time live sports programming had been broadcast on LinkNYC kiosks.

"The Knicks belong to all New Yorkers, whether you're watching from the Garden or not," Mayor Mamdani said. "This weekend, we're running it back. More than a hundred kiosks will turn our sidewalks into watch parties and our streets into celebrations. Knicks in Five."

Excitement for the Knicks championship run is palpable in the Bronx

From San Antonio to the Bronx, the excitement over the Knicks' NBA Finals run is palpable.

On the streets of the Bronx, there's a belief that it's just a matter of time until the first Knicks NBA championship in 53 years.

There's trash talk even in the sweetest of places. Artuso's Pastry shop was founded the same year as the Knicks. Its goodies are sold at The Garden, but this is next level, with custom cupcakes and cannolis, and forget rainbow or black and white cookies, it's all orange and blue baby.

The team logo printed on edible paper is officially licensed, and while the same might not be said for some of the merch you might come across, Dick's Sporting Goods is one place to buy the real deal. But to no surprise, it's flying off the shelves.

Fans make plans to watch Game 5 and represent the Knicks

With the Knicks just one win away from their first championship title in 53 years, fans still can't get over the excitement of seeing the team pull off the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history on Wednesday to win Game 4 against the Spurs.

Fans in the Tri-State want to be a witness to history in any way they can, but MSG's plans for watch parties are still up in the air. MSG pulled the plug on Wednesday's party outside The Garden, and later, celebrations in the streets got way out of hand.

Police arrested more than 50 people and 10 officers were hurt. So, what will the city do?

Eyewitness News reporter Lindsay Tuchman has the latest on the potential for watch parties for Game 5.
