Campaign Finance Board denies matching funds for Adams

The Campaign Finance Board again denied Mayor Eric Adams matching funds, saying his campaign still has not provided enough information as the CFB investigates whether his campaign broke the law during 2021 fundraising.

The board has denied Mayor Adams matching funds 11 times since December 2024, in part because of allegations of a straw donor scheme laid out in a federal bribery indictment against him. While federal bribery charges against the mayor were dismissed with prejudice, the CFP's investigation continues.

The Adams campaign says the mayor "has followed all proper procedures, put everything in order under the legal process, and filed accordingly ... We strongly believe that the Mayor's rights must be treated fairly and equally, just as with every candidate in this race."

-Zohran Mamdani received $1.92 million in matching funds

-Curtis Sliwa got $1.4 million

-Andrew Cuomo got $490,000

-Jim Walden got $35,000

Mayoral candidates speak out on deadly shooting in East Harlem

Two candidates running for mayor of New York City are sounding off on the fatal shooting of a grandmother from East Harlem.

Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa plans to talk about the death of 69-year-old Robin Wright at the 110th Street Subway Station, while former Governor Andrew Cuomo plans to speak to residents on a Harlem street corner on Thursday morning.

Sliwa said he is demanding "urgent action to protect seniors and restore safety citywide."

Cuomo released a statement that said in part, "Public safety is Job 1. We need more police, not less. We need precision policing-not dangerous socialist "defund, disband and disarm the police" bumper-sticker slogans. We need a Mayor who understands that trained police, not social workers, must respond to domestic violence calls-and that it is police officers, not Department of Transportation employees, who must handle traffic stops where many illegal guns are confiscated. The stakes are too high."

Powerful Democrats reluctant to endorse Mamdani in NYC mayoral race

In the race for New York City mayor, Zohran Mamdani has racked up endorsements from several figures within the Democratic party, but support from the most powerful within the party has eluded him.

Several prominent, mostly progressive, Democrats have enthusiastically endorsed Mamdani. Adriano Espaillat explained last month that loyal Democrats should support their nominee.

"The Democrats have spoken," the congressman said back in July.

But despite all of that, New York's most powerful Democrats are on the fence, and there are still no endorsements from U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Gov. Kathy Hochul.
