Mamdani speaks out after poll finds he maintains his lead in race for mayor

Despite recent polls show Zohran Mamdani outpacing the other candidates in the race for New York City mayor, his rivals say they aren't going anywhere.

Mamdani spoke out Wednesday for the first time after a new poll by The New York Times and Sienna College showed he has a commanding 22-point lead.

"We're feeling good but we don't believe in polls to get us to the finish line, that's how we got to the Democratic nominee, we win this race each and every day and we're proud of the more than 60,000 volunteers we have knocking on doors," Mamdani said.

But for his competitors, no one is showing any signs of slowing down or backing down and they are campaigning to pick up every possible vote.

9/11 heroes endorse Andrew Cuomo for mayor

Andrew Cuomo displayed photos of Zohran Mamdani shaking hands with left-wing political commentator Hasan Piker, who once said "America deserved" September 11th.

He was endorsed by Wendi Turturici, who became an EMT after the attacks, and her husband Sal Turturici, an FDNY emergency medical technician who now suffers from stage 4 neuroendocrine cancer.

In 2017, Cuomo stood side by side with Sal to sign legislation granting unlimited sick leave to responders battling illnesses from their service. That day, they rode motorcycles together to honor 9/11 first responders to symbolize resilience, solidarity, and progress.

"I know firsthand what kind of leader Andrew Cuomo is," Wendi Turturici said. "As Governor, he fought to secure benefits for 9/11 families, and he treated our community with the respect and dignity we deserve. That's the kind of leadership New York City needs again."

She added: "His opponent, Zohran Mamdani, proudly associates with Hasan Piker, a man who said 'America deserved 9/11.' To families like mine, that's not politics, that's life and death. His association with Hasan Piker disqualifies him to serve in any role for New York City, let alone one as important as Mayor. I am calling on Zohran Mamdani to disavow Hasan Piker and his hateful words."

Walden appears before Board of Elections

Jim Walden, former independent candidate for Mayor of New York City, appeared before the New York City Board of Elections to request that his name be removed from the November ballot.

Walden argued that the Board has broad discretion under state and federal law to grant his request, citing precedent and warning that keeping him on the ballot would undermine voter confidence.
