NEW JERSEY (WABC) -- With less than a month to go until election day, the candidates running for governor of New Jersey faced off for their final debate.

Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli took the stage for one hour in the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center in Middlesex County.

The candidates debated the biggest issues facing the Garden State such as the high cost of living, the government shutdown, immigration and political tension across the country.

Eyewitness News anchor Bill Ritter and WPVI-TV anchor Tamala Edwards moderated the debate. Our coverage is provided in partnership with WPVI-TV and Univision 41.

Getting to know NJ gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli and his policies

Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli are locked in a tight race that has gained national attention.

Ahead of the debate, Eyewitness News is taking a look at the man who four years ago nearly defeated Governor Phil Murphy, and vowed during his concession speech that he would be back.

Candidate Jack Ciattarelli wowed supporters deep in Ocean County on Tuesday, less than a month before Election day.

Toni Yates reports from Stafford Township.

He is working to guarantee they show up at the polls.

For 10 years now, Ciattarelli has had his eye on the Governor's seat.

Getting to know New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill

Election day is now less than a month away and with only two gubernatorial races across the country, all eyes are on New Jersey.

Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli are locked in a tight and nasty race and we are taking a deeper dive into the candidates.

Sherrill is a Navy pilot looking to trade in her congressional seat for a seat in the Statehouse in Trenton.

Anthony Johnson reports from Union, New Jersey.

Following her primary night victory, Sherrill has been focusing on being visible in all 21 counties in the state, from Glouster to Bergen.

The 53-year-old mother of four says making New Jersey affordable will be her prime goal if elected Governor.
