NEW YORK (WABC) -- Brutal cold continues across New York City and the Tri-State area, with bone-chilling wind chills dipping as low as 5 to 10 degrees below zero in some spots.

Cold weather advisories remain in effect, with frostbite possible on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

While daytime temperatures may briefly approach the freezing mark this week, strong winds are making it feel far colder.

Black ice, flurries, and another potential blast of Arctic cold heading into next weekend mean winter hazards are far from over.
Bundle up, limit time outdoors, and stay weather-aware.

Big dig out continues throughout New Jersey

The big dig out continues throughout the New Jersey as cities, towns, boroughs and municipalities try to remove excessive amounts of snow.

In Bloomfield, crews are working overnight to clear out business areas.

The head of the Department of Public Works says his 40 employees are dealing with long hours, heavy snow turning to ice and equipment breakdowns in their efforts to clear the snow.

The residential blocks have been plowed so emergency vehicles can make their way through. However, there are plenty of cars parked on the street that are still covered with snow. Officials plan to get to those streets and clean them up as long as residents cooperate.

New Yorkers still digging out 3 days after winter snowstorm

Some New Yorkers are finding it difficult to catch MTA buses in the wake of Sunday's snowstorm, not because of the conditions on the roads, but because the bus stops themselves are blocked by piles of snow.

The city is still deploying people to shovel, and the mayor says they're making progress.

"As of 7:10 a.m. this morning, DOT workers have cleared a total of 3,227 bus stop shelters, which is about 95% of the 3,400 bus stops with shelters," Mayor Zohran Mamdani said.

But bus riders may beg to differ, and often find themselves standing in the street waiting for buses.

The reality is the snow will be on the ground a while with the cold temperatures.
