PBA, Uniformed Forces Coalition 2025 decline to make endorsement

Both the PBA and Uniformed Forces Coalition 2025, comprised of most of the city's other law enforcement unions, are both declining to endorse in the mayor's race.

The coalition met with both Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa at the offices of the Detectives Endowment Association last Friday, and decided not to endorse either.

Zohran Mamdani also asked for a meeting with the group, but they declined to see him. The group endorsed Eric Adams before he dropped out.

The PBA, which is not part of the coalition, also decided not to endorse a candidate in the final week of the race.

PBA President Patrick Hendry said: "No matter who the next mayor is, our fight doesn't change. We remain focused on the issues that matter most to our members: alleviating the NYPD staffing crisis, improving their quality of life and compensation, and ending the climate of demonization and second-guessing in which they have worked for far too long."

NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani blasts 'shocking' remarks from JD Vance about his aunt

Democratic frontrunner for New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani said he would be a leader for "every New Yorker" and try not to "pit people against each other," during a wide-ranging interview with "ABC News Live Prime" anchor Linsey Davis in the last stretch of the election.

At the top of Monday's sit-down interview, Mamdani, 34, addressed what he has called anti-Islamic comments made to attack his campaign, following controversial statements made by one of his opponents, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Mamdani also responded to "shocking" remarks by Vice President JD Vance after the mayoral candidate said his aunt felt uncomfortable riding the subway wearing her hijab after 9/11.

In response to Mamdani's comments, Vance said on social media: "According to Zohran the real victim of 9/11 was his auntie who got some (allegedly) bad looks."

"It is sadly unsurprising, but still shocking to see the vice president of this country try and make a cheap joke about Islamophobia when what New Yorkers want is a vision of a city that can come together," Mamdani said of Vance's remarks. "And coming together means honoring every single person who calls this city their home, not trying to pit people against each other as has become the norm in both Republican politics and now we're also seeing in Democratic politics as well."

Former Gov. David Paterson endorses Andrew Cuomo

Former Gov. David Paterson has endorsed Andrew Cuomo for mayor of New York City on Tuesday.

"This has been a truly wild campaign for New York City mayor," said Paterson. "I'm proudly endorsing Andrew Cuomo today because I believe he is the best equipped to lead our beautiful city during these trying times. Andrew has the experience the job demands to attract and maintain businesses to grow our economy, take on massive infrastructure projects, and make sure law enforcement has the resources they need to keep city streets safe and protected. I know Andrew and his team have been fighting to bridge the gap and they have my full support for anything they might need between now and next Tuesday."

NYC mayoral candidates pick up more endorsements

Curtis Sliwa was joined Tuesday morning by transit union member Tramell Thompson, who has endorsed him.

Not only does he call himself "the mayor of mass transit," Sliwa said he is the candidate that represents the rank and file subway workers, "who are from time to time the victims of very viscous attacks."

Thompson said "Curtis has been on the front line" of public safety. Workers "know how unsafe it is. we know the realities."

Meanwhile the conservative New York Sun website has endorsed Andrew Cuomo.

The editorial acknowledges it would normally back the Republican, and backing Cuomo puts them in an unusual position.

"Sliwa may be a Republican, but he has failed to advance in the polls to a contending position....Whatever our past differences with Mr. Cuomo over policy or character, it's hard to disagree with him when he declares: 'This is the most important election I have ever been in.'"

And Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez has endorsed Zohran Mamdani.

"I really do appreciate Ydanis' endorsement and the fact that it shows this is a coalition that is expanding to speak to New Yorkers across the five boroughs," Mamdani said.
