FORDHAM (WABC) -- A Metro-North train was evacuated after striking a bicycle that police say was thrown onto the tracks and into the path of the oncoming train in the Bronx Monday morning.

The incident happened at 11:44 a.m. to a Harlem line train near the Fordham stop. The train was coming from North White Plains, where it left at 11:16 a.m. It was due in Grand Central at 11:59.

The MTA says there was no derailment, and there was no damage to the train or the third rail.

A passenger tells Eyewitness News that the train had just departed the Fordham stop, and that several rear cars were still at the platform.

There were about 200 people on board at the time. No injuries were reported.

The passengers were discharged to the platform to wait for the next southbound train, the 11:33 a.m. train from North White Plains, due into Grand Central at 12:26 p.m.

Local trains were running on the express tracks and 15- to 20-minute delays were initially reported, but normal service has since resumed.

MTA police are now searching for the person they say deliberately tossed the bike onto the tracks. Anyone with information is asked to call authorities.
