PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A subway rider was stabbed during the robbery of his cell phone in Brooklyn Tuesday morning, according to police.

Authorities say the man in his 20s was stabbed on a southbound No. 2 train as it approached the Winthrop Street station around 5:15 a.m.

He was stabbed in right torso, and the suspect made off with his phone.

Two teens fled the scene.

The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Southbound 2/5 trains were bypassing Winthrop Street while the NYPD conducted an investigation.

It comes one day after the NYPD and MTA said crime is down on the subways and even lower than pre-pandemic levels.
