Old Westbury High School hit by burglars, twice
N.J. Burkett reports live from Westbury.

WESTBURY, N.Y. (WABC) -- Police on Long Island looking for the thieves who targeted a high school and stole more than $60,000 worth of electronics equipment on two separate occasions.

The incidents happened at Westbury High School in Nassau County, and even though police have surveillance of one of the men, they have no suspects and no leads.

Now, authorities are appealing to the public for help, reaching out because it has been weeks and even months, and the losses are running into the tens of thousands of dollars.

The surveillance shows a still image of a man dressed in black from head to toe with no clear image of his face.

Investigators believe the thieves knew the layout of the school and knew where the surveillance cameras were and avoided them.

They broke into the high school at the end of June last year and again over December break, stealing Apple laptops and desktop computers valued at more than $66,000.

And even for a wealthy district, which this is not, that would be a lot of money.

There is also concern that the thieves could strike again, here or elsewhere.

Anyone with information that could help solve this case is asked to call 1-800-244-TIPS (8477).
