SHEEPSHEAD BAY, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Eleven people were rescued from a sinking fishing boat in the waters off Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.

The boat began taking on water while docked at Pier 1 just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Emergency responders arrived and created a makeshift bridge to the dock using rescue equipment.

All 11 passengers crawled to safety as the boat slowly sunk.

One person was taken by a waiting ambulance to Coney Island Hospital. The others were treated at the scene.

The boat was stabilized and remains half submerged at the pier and is expected to be removed later Thursday.

It is not yet known what caused the boat to sink. The incident is under investigation.
