13-year-old dies after being in distress in ocean in Belmar, police say
BELMAR, New Jersey (WABC) -- A teenager has died after going missing in the ocean in Belmar, New Jersey, on Friday.
Police said around 6:30 p.m., police received 911 calls of a swimmer in distress at 8th Avenue beach.
When police arrived, they were told one subject was out of the water but another juvenile swimmer was missing.
Around 7:30 p.m. the 13-year-old victim was found unresponsive in the water off the 7th Avenue beach.
The victim was removed from the water and life-saving efforts were made by lifeguards, EMS and Hackensack Meridian Paramedics.
The victim was taken to Jersey Shore University Hospital and pronounced dead.
The incident remains under investigation.
