16-year-old boy fatally struck by Metro-North train in Connecticut; 2 individuals arrested
NORWALK, Connecticut (WABC) -- A teen was struck and killed by a Metro-North train Connecticut, leading to disruptions on the Danbury Branch Wednesday night.
Officials say a 16-year-old boy was struck by the Metro-North train traveling from Danbury to South Norwalk on a bridge overpass south of the Merritt 7 Station just after 8 p.m.
The victim was transported to Norwalk Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 9:40 p.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed that three people not authorized to be on tracks were at that location. Two males, ages 17 and 20, were detained by MTAPD officers and charged with trespassing.
Twenty-five passengers on board the train at the time of the incident are being transferred to a backup train to complete their journey.
There were no injuries to the train crew or passengers.
Danbury Branch service was temporarily suspended pending completion of the police investigation.
